Canadian Aviation Regulations - Since October 1996, new
regulations have affected all aspects of aviation in Canada.
Browse the latest changes on the Transport Canada site. For
most pilots and student pilots, of particular interest will
be Part IV (Personnel Licensing and Training) and Part VI (General
Operating and Flight Rules).
- Publications - Flight
test standards and required knowledge for the written exam are
constantly changing and being updated. You can keep yourself
up to date with these documents:
- Flight
Test Standards - everything you need to demonstrate
to the examiner on the flight test.
- Study
and Reference Guides - topics you will be responsible
for on the written exam (see note below).
- Practice
Written Exam - for the Recreational and Private Pilot
(a little on the easy side). Requires a copy of the Toronto
VFR Navigation Chart to complete the Navigation section.
Also in Acrobat
format.
- Computer-based
Written Exam -
The Transport Canada examination centers have gone to a
computer-based examination scheme. Private Pilot exams and
Recreational permit exams can now be done at Flight Discovery.
It is a good idea to get some practice in before you actually
come in to write your exam, so use this link to an .exe
file that will run a sample exam on your computer for you.
Some versions of Netscape try to add .att to the download
file name. Just save with the .att in the file name.
- PSTAR
exam. Pre-solo written exam required for pre-solo students
as well as for licensed pilots who have not acted as pilot
-in -command for 5 years or more. This is the study guide.
A 50-question, closed-book exam, drawn from these questions,
is administered by Flight Discovery. Also available in an
Adobe Acrobat version.
- Self-Paced
Exam for two-year currency requirement. We are finding
a number of renter pilots who do not meet the 2-year currency
requirement. The requirement can be met in a number of ways,
including upgrading your license, attending a safety seminar
or by completing the self-paced exam. (Just going
flying doesn't count.) You can download the exam from Transport
Canada.
- Radio
license Study Guide for use prior to taking the 25 question
exam for issuance of the aeronautical radio operators certificate.
- Category
4 Aviation Medical Forms required for the Recreational
Pilot Permit are available from the Transport Canada site.
New Flight Discovery students: please have these countersigned
by your personal physician and return them to us. They are
required to be on file prior to your first solo flight.
- NOTE: The Study and Reference Guides,
as well as the Practice Exam, are maintained on the Transport
Canada site as MS Word (.DOC) and Adobe Acrobat (.PDF) files.
A freeware MS Word Viewer is available from Microsoft here.
This version only works with Windows 2000, Windows
XP, or Windows 2003 server.
